Grey Days
The idea
Turn New Balance’s signature grey into a seven-part history of the people and subcultures that made the brand matter.
Timeless principle
A distinctive brand code grows richer when you show the different communities that have made it their own.
Why it works
Grey is usually treated as background. The film makes it the organizing character, moving through seven compact chapters that connect running, skateboarding, music and street style without flattening them into one glossy brand world. Grainy black-and-white photography gives the color an unexpected range, while shifts in casting, setting and rhythm let different communities keep their own texture. A retro animated history supplies context without stopping the film for a corporate lecture. The shoes remain present as worn objects rather than product shots, so heritage feels accumulated through use. New Balance turns a conservative product code into evidence of continuity and cultural reach.
