Timeless principle
When a product changes modes, make the audience perform that change and let the medium transform with it.
The idea
Build two synchronized films, then let holding R switch between a family school run in a Civic and a nocturnal art-heist escape in its Type R alter ego.
Why it works
Every scene has a double: daylight becomes night, family routine becomes undercover danger, and the standard Civic becomes the Type R. Because the films are precisely synchronized, pressing R does not interrupt the story; it reveals the parallel version already running beneath it. The interaction is more than a trick. It turns the Type R’s dashboard button into the viewing mechanic, so the product’s dual character is learned through the viewer’s own hand. Daniel Wolfe and editor Tom Grave Carter keep the contrasts legible while matched framing and sound make switching feel seamless. The brand proposition lives in the architecture of the film.
